Fall 2018 "Outstanding" Film Series Lineup:

Date: Thursday, September 20 @ 6:30 pm
Film: All the President's Men, 1976, Rated PG - It's been over 40 years since the release of this movie but Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman still sizzle as two young reporters investigating the Watergate break-in that ultimately led to the resignation of President Richard M. Nixon. If ever there was a movie that underscored the importance of a free press in American democracy this is it. The wonderful supporting cast includes Jason Robards and Hal Holbrook. Two hours in duration.

Date: Thursday, October 25 @ 6:30 pm
The Counterfeiters, 2007, Rated R - This German film depicts Operation Bernhard, a plan by the Nazis to use concentration camp counterfeiters to forge British currency with the aim of destabilizing England's economy. The high octane pace of this drama sheds light on a little known aspect of Hitler's strategy to conquer the world. Suspenseful from the first minute to the last. This film will be shown with subtitles. One hour, thirty eight minutes.

Date: Thursday, November 15 @ 6:30 pm
Film: Water, 2006, Rated PG-13 - Set in 1938 India, during the rise of Gandhi, this film focuses on a child bride who is sent to live at a "widows' house" after her husband's death. There she will be shunned for the rest of her life according to Indian tradition. But Gandhi is modernizing India and a new law permits her to remarry. This wonderful film offers us a glimpse into a world vastly different from ours and according to the late film critic Roger Ebert, "finds beauty in the souls of its characters." This film will be shown with subtitles. Two hours.

Date: Thursday, December 13 @ 6:30
Film: My Left Foot, 1989, Rated R - This film features Daniel Day-Lewis who gives an incredible performance as an individual born with cerebral palsy and thought to be intellectually challenged. Through grit and determination his character defies expectations and becomes a brilliant writer and artist. This uplifting and inspirational film was written and directed by Jim Sheridan, of last season's popular film In America. This film will be shown with subtitles. Two hours.
